Who Will Bail Out Africa? The Global Financial Crisis' Economic Effect on the

Development of Sub-Saharan Africa

Date: TBD

Location: TBD

American University Washington College of Law

4801 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington, DC

This year, the American University International Law Review will focus its annual Symposium on the global financial crisis and its effect on Africa, the world's most impoverished continent.  It was initially predicted that Africa would be generally insulated from the economic shock caused by the recent global recession; however, with African economies experiencing greater incorporation into the world market and with Sub-Saharan countries largely dependent upon foreign aid/foreign direct investment for economic survival, Africa may feel the economic downturn just as greatly as, if not greater than, any other global region.
